Ghetto Streets

Ghetto Streets
By Stephon Latham aka Silentpoet

Broken pavement
With shades of different grays
Filled with footprints from the enslaved
The path where black people walk backwards in life
Controlled by strife, too weak to fight
In black sight, are “Dead End” signs and “Stop” signs
And black people don’t “Yield Right Of Way”
They “Proceed With Caution”
Often too blind to find the road less traveled
So black feet walk to the beat of the ghetto gravel
The ghetto gravel penetrates the soul
And I’m not talking about the sole of black feet
But the soul God bestowed
The penetration brings a hesitation in the black stroll
Progression trapped in a capsule
Stopping the movement
And black people are too confused to resume it
So black people stand still like pothole
And refuse to hold on tight to life
As the days and nights grow old
Black lives grow cold
Froze, standing still in the same pothole
I too walked the same streets
But I walked with a different beat, stomping in a fresh pair of Nike
That’s a fresh pair of Never Ignorant, Knowledge Empowers
I ignored signs like “Wrong Way, “One Way” or “Do No Enter”
Made a “U-Turn” but I “Pass With Care”
So it’s hard for me to bear, hard for me to stare
At the slow transition of my black people’s condition
This poem wasn’t designed to “Reduce The Speed”
But to let blacks know there’s no “Speed Limit Ahead” to succeed
“Use Left Shoulder” of God
And He’ll guide you to the “Rest Area”
Wear this poem like a fresh pair of Nike
That’s a fresh pair of Never Ignorant, Knowledge Empowers
Walk with me and stomp with a different beat
And get your ass off these Ghetto Streets

Wisdom from an Older Fisherman

Wisdom from an Older Fisherman
By Stephon Latham aka Silentpoet
(In response to gifted poet, Philips Lewis poem, Don’t Chase The Currents)

Man, leave that fish alone
And let the currents move her left
Because her current state of mind
Is polluted, diluted and she lacks knowledge of self

Don’t be fooled by the curl of her smile
Nor the curve of her fin
That’s the same bait she used
To lure me in

She’s as beautiful as the day
When the sun’s ray illuminate the ocean
She’s as beautiful as the night
When the stars and moonlight fight
Trying to capture my focus

Now she leaped into my arms
With such excitement and such glee
As I started to pull her near
She commenced to slap me

It was clear as the sparkling water
She knew not what she wanted
But her nice fin and pretty smile,
That she knew how to flaunt it

From older fisherman to younger fisherman
Maybe you should change your bait
Rather than use your eyes
Use your heart and continue to wait

See a fisherman can be blind
But the heart still has sight
And beat of the heart moves with the hands on the clock.
So if she bites, the timing is right.

"I'm 24 hrs from Greatness"

SIDE NOTE >>>>>>>This is such a potent bar from yours truly, Drake. Just sit down and think about that title, "I'm 24 hrs from greatness." What if you were that close to greatness? Are you aware that you are that close? Sometimes you have to step out your comfort zone to see such potential. It may require you to be alone. Your greatness lives in bottom of your belly, waiting for nurturing. Everyone is entitled to greatness. Few activate it. Many keep it dormant................ Are you ready to be great?
